DLS runs to tourney title
While De La Salle's football team was being recognized for its 17th straight North Coast Section championship, Spartan point guard Brandon Smith was
giving his basketball teammates a football style halftime speech in the locker room. He then scored 10 of his 16 points in a second-half surge that carried De La Salle (4-0) to a 62-47 victory over
Fairfield for championship of the 21st annual Chris Vontoure Tournament.
De La Salle's Moar warms to a cold task
Wesley Moar scored
his first career varsity goal in the Spartans' 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Granada to open the East Bay Athletic League boys soccer season, De La Salle's first as an EBAL newcomer. In the 42nd minute, Moar broke a scoreless tie after a foul just outside the box set up a set piece. Moar buried the ball just inside the
top right corner to give the Spartans (3-0, 1-0) a win over the Matadors (6-1-1, 0-1).

Miramonte 17 - DLS 6
Miramonte took an early 6-0 lead with less
than 5 minutes into the game and never looked back.
Leading 8-3 at the half, the Matadors scored 6 times in the 3rd period and beat the #3 Spartans
17-6, and their 4th NCS title.

Centennial Claims De La Payback and State Crown
What
sweetened the deal was that they knocked off those dang De La Salle (Concord) Spartans, the six-time mythical national champions - the program that once owned a national-record 151-game win streak - who
broke their heart with a 37-31 victory in the same game last season.
Twist of fate providing DLS-Centennial rematch
After it
suffered a 23-21 loss to Don Bosco Prep on Sept. 27, there weren't many that expected De La Salle to even make the trip to a state bowl game in 2008. And yet that's where the Spartans will be today when
they face Centennial-Corona, not in the "featured" Open division, but the Division I championship bowl game at 8 p.m.
DLS's Wayne perseveres
Blake Wayne doesn't exactly cut a John Wayne presence until you hear him speak, or better yet, watch him play. He is the Spartans' offensive
efficiency expert, the conduit through which the team's precision veer option offense operates with uncanny efficiency.
State's system of picking prep bowl games wrong
California was the last state in the U.S. to hold high school football state championships, and the 2008 season has provided us with a big reason why:
more unhappy teams than happy teams, even among some of the schools that actually earned bowl berths.
Section Commissioners Stay in a State of Silence
So just how
did the section commissioners who voted for Grant come to the conclusion the Pacers' strength of schedule was better than De La Salle's? Don't ask, because they won't tell you. Of the four section
officials contacted on Monday, all four declined to comment,
De La Salle isn't top dog in CIF state bowls
In a secret
ballot vote by the CIF's 10-section commissioners, the team that hasn't lost to a California school north of Fresno since 1991 was not considered the strongest representative of section champions
throughout Northern California. That distinction was given to Grant-Sacramento.
De La Salle stops Pittsburg to win NCS title Game Stats and Scoring
Kylan Butler had 186 rushing yards
and the De La Salle defense gave up just 34 yards on the ground as it won its 17th straight NCS title with a 34-10 Division I victory at Dublin High School on Friday.
Foothill's second visit to DLS gets no better

If the
Falcons were looking for a sign that the second visit to Concord was going to be any different than the first, then the second play of the game wasn't very friendly. Spartans running back Terron
Williams-Ward took the handoff and burst into the middle of the Foothill line, only to re-emerge on the other side and sprint 62 yards for a TD. DLS never really looked back as it rolled to a 42-7 win.
De La Salle's fast start puts away Deer Valley

touchdowns on each of its first five possessions and eventually rolled to a 52-7 Division I quarterfinal win over visiting Deer Valley."I thought we came out of (the bye week) well," De La
Salle coach Bob Ladouceur said. "We came out aggressive. The defense stopped them, and we moved the football. I was really happy with how we played tonight."

Wins NCS Water Polo Title Over De La Salle
The exact same starting seven that won last year's section title lined up
for the Matadors and the heavy favorites got the job done defeating the number three seed De La Salle 17-6 for its 4th straight NCS championship and 15th overall.
De La Salle water polo team edges Campolindo
The No. 3 Spartans (21-6) trailed for much of Thursday's game but rallied in the fourth quarter. An outside shot by Nick
Cooper tied the game at five with 5:05 left in the contest, but Pat Keane fired in the winning goal with 1:34 remaining as De La Salle came from behind to beat Campolindo 7-6 in a NCS semifinal game
played at the Soda Aquatic Center.
De La Salle water polo team holds off Monte Vista
De La Salle (20-6), which will get a chance to avenge an NCS semifinal loss last year to Campolindo on Thursday at the
Campolindo Aquatic Soda Center in Moraga, did what good teams do - it put away the underdog when it mattered most. The Spartans struck three times in the final period, including the third goal of the
match by junior Nick Cooper on a 5-meter free shot, and goals by Steven Rodriguez and Pat Keane.
